This indenture made and entered into the 3^rd day of October 1868 between J. A. Matthews and Rebecca A.  His wife of the county of Monroe and the state of Ky of the first part and Henderson J. Waller of the second part of the county of Barren and the state afore said. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred and fifty dollars the receipt of one hundred dollars hereby acknowledged paid the remainder to be paid in one and two years note given due twelve months after date for one hundred and twenty five dollars bearing interest from date and one note due two years after date for one hundred and twenty five dollars bearing interest from date:

The party of the first part __ this day sold and by these presence do bargain, sell and convey unto the party of the second part  a tract or parcel of land lying on the waters of Caney Fork and Skeggs  Creek in Barren county Ky containing fifty-five acres it being the land which was conveyed by M. H. Dickinson commissioner of the Barren Circuit Court to the party of the first. The party of the first , covenant and agree to and with the party of the second part to forever ___ and defend the title to said free forever the claims of thereselfs[as written] and heors and all other persons whatever and it is expressly understood between the partys[as written] that the party of the first part retains a lease on said land until the purchase ___ is paid . In testimony whereof we have here unto set our hands and seal the date above written.
